Aftercare in Los Angeles: Life After Rehab and Ongoing Support

Leaving residential treatment is the beginning of recovery, not the end of it. Your aftercare plan is written while you’re still in the house, by the team that treated you, and it names who you call and when. Carrara arranges at-home sober companions through third-party providers.

What Aftercare Means at Carrara

Aftercare at Carrara is a written plan with an owner, not a folder of phone numbers. It’s built during treatment, finished before you go home, and specific enough to survive a bad week. Rebuilding a life after rehab is personal growth with a schedule, and the schedule is written down.

What Does Aftercare Include?

Every plan is written for one person, and these are the parts most plans draw on.

Relapse Prevention Planning

A written, individual plan that maps your triggers, your warning signs and a clear response to each, finished before you leave.

At-Home Sober Companions

Arranged by Carrara through third-party providers where they fit the plan, with the difference between a companion and a sober coach explained up front.

Continuing Therapy

Referrals made before departure, to clinicians trained in the therapy your plan names, so the work keeps its thread.

Guided Journaling

Structured reflection that makes progress visible to you, week by week, instead of assumed.

Self-Compassion Work

Shame and perfectionism are common relapse triggers, so the plan works on them directly rather than hoping they fade.

Family Support

With your consent, the people at home learn the plan and their part in it, including what to do if a warning sign appears.

How Does Aftercare Work at Carrara?

Planning starts well before discharge, so nothing is left to figure out on the drive home. The first 90 days, step by step.

01

Before You Leave

The plan is finished, the first appointments are already on a calendar, and the people in your support circle know the shape of it.

02

Week One

The most engineered week of the year: therapy continues, the routine is set, and the first calls come from us as well as from you.

03

The Routine

Structure is the medicine now: sleep, movement, meals, work reentry planned with your case manager, and self-care that’s scheduled rather than aspirational.

04

When It Wobbles

A hard week has a protocol, not a verdict: the plan names who to call and what happens next, and the relapse prevention plan is part of the written aftercare.

05

Day 90 and After

The plan is reviewed and thinned deliberately as life takes its weight back, which is the goal.

Who Owns the Plan You Leave With

Aftercare and alumni services at Carrara are run by Dr. Ryan Reilly, PsyD, MFT, AMFT, Director of Clinical Operations and Alumni Services. The plan you leave with has an owner who answers.

That sentence is rarer than it should be: aftercare focused on the person rather than the file is not the industry default, and programs that process patients close cases where a house that hosted you keeps your number. At most programs, aftercare is whoever is on shift the morning you leave.

One FileThe plan is written by the Carrara clinicians who treated you, not assembled by a stranger at discharge.

The Team Behind ItClinicians who average 20,000 hours of clinical experience each wrote the plan, and they stay on the other end of it.

What Do You Do With the Free Time After Rehab?

You fill it on purpose, because early recovery fails quietly, in unstructured hours, more often than it fails loudly. Feeling bored sounds like a small complaint, and dealing with boredom at nine on a Friday night is anything but. The plan treats empty time as a clinical variable, because it is one.

Nobody plans for the empty Tuesday afternoon, and it is exactly the hour the plan exists for. Carrara Treatment, Malibu

How Do You Celebrate Sobriety Milestones?

Sobriety milestones are structure too, and celebrating them is allowed: every milestone is a date on the calendar that says the plan is working, and how to celebrate it matters more than people admit.

The early gates. Marked deliberately, because the first ninety days are where the plan works hardest.

The First Year

A year is a life rebuilt in four seasons; it deserves more than a chip and a handshake.

The Quiet Ones

The first sober wedding, the first hard anniversary, the first ordinary vacation. Nobody prints these on a calendar, and they matter more than the round numbers.

How Alumni Mark Them

With the people who watched the work happen. Good sobriety celebration ideas are mostly fun in ordinary clothes: dinner where the toast is coffee, ways of marking the day that don’t audition for a movie scene.

Staying Sober in Los Angeles: The Post-Rehab Lifestyle

Los Angeles is a hard city to get sober in and a good city to stay sober in, and the difference is a plan written for this city rather than for cities in general.

A Few More Questions About Aftercare

What happens if I relapse?

The plan already answers it: who you call, what happens in the first 24 hours, and what response fits, from an outpatient adjustment to coming back. A lapse triggers the protocol, not a lecture, and the relapse statistics page is honest about how common recurrence is.

What’s the difference between a sober coach and a sober companion?

A companion is presence, hours or days at a time in your actual life; a coach is structure, scheduled and goal-directed. The sober coach page explains both, and Carrara arranges companions through third-party providers where the plan calls for one.

My family wants to be involved. How?

Inside the plan, with your consent: family sessions where indicated, and an intervention-informed approach when a family is trying to help somebody who isn’t ready yet.

How do we start?

One confidential call with Carrara’s own admissions team. If the right answer is a different program, or just an aftercare consult, you’ll hear that plainly. Reach admissions directly on (888) 383-5207.

Leave With a Plan, Not a Pamphlet

Whether you’re choosing a program now or thinking about what happens after one, ask us what the year after treatment looks like here. The person who answers works at Carrara, the call is confidential, and if we’re not the right place, we’ll tell you who is.

If this is an emergency, call 911. For free confidential support 24 hours a day, call or text 988.
